With mass production cell efficiencies now surpassing 27% and further expected growth, the paper concludes that BC is emerging as the core pathway toward higher solar performance and sustainability.

LONGi and SM Advance Energy Sign MoU for Groundbreaking Solar Technological Park in the Canary Islands

LONGi has signed an MoU with SM Advance Energy to develop a 22MW solar technological park in Gran Canaria, part of the Canary Islands. The Parque Tecnológico de Energía Solar Gran Canaria (ESGC) will showcase advanced photovoltaic (PV) technologies—including LONGi’s Hi-MO S10, X10, and Hi-MO 7 modules—alongside agrivoltaic systems integrating solar with sustainable farming. Spanning multiple zones, the park will serve as a hub for clean energy innovation, R&D, and eco-tourism. Construction begins in 2025 with grid connection by 2027. The initiative aims to boost local industry, education, and environmental stewardship, aligning with EU climate goals and Spain’s energy transition.

LONGi launches 25% efficient heterojunction back contact (HIBC) module and new consumer solar brand “EcoLife”

LONGi, a global leader in solar technology, introduced a premium back contact module based on heterojunction (HIBC) at Intersolar, Munich. This is the first time that heterojunction back contact technology has been successfully implemented in a commercialized module. The Hi-MO S10 (EcoLife Pro) delivers a world-leading cell efficiency of 27.3% and a module efficiency of up to 25%, setting a new benchmark for performance in the photovoltaic industry. The 54-cell bifacial premium module is designed for use in the residential sector and has a maximum power output of up to 510W leading to a power per square meter ratio of 250W/m². LONGi offers a 30-year warranty on both power and materials.

LONGi Reports Strong 2024 Results and Accelerates BC Technology Rollout

LONGi has published its 2024 annual report, posting revenue of CNY 82.582 billion and CNY 13.652 billion in Q1 2025. The company is rapidly upgrading its HPBC 1.0 lines to the high-efficiency N-type HPBC 2.0 technology (HPBC = Hybrid Passivated Back Contact). Production lines have now achieved a 97% yield rate, supporting plans for large-scale adoption of Back Contact (BC) technology. With capacity expansion and rising demand, LONGi is positioning BC at the heart of its innovation roadmap.
