LONGi unveils HIBC module with world-first 700W at 25.9% efficiency and 259 W/m² power density

Frankfurt, June 24 – At the 18th International Solar Photovoltaic Exhibition (SNEC) in 2025, LONGi unveiled its newly developed HIBC - Hybrid Interdigitated Back Contact - and corresponding mass-produced module series. It achieves over 700W of energy output on the standard 2382mm × 1134mm module size, translating to a power density exceeding 259 W/m². With mass production efficiency of 25.9%, LONGi’s HIBC modules mark the beginning of the 25%+ efficiency era for photovoltaic technology.

HIBC is a technological fusion that combines elements of HJT (heterojunction) and back-contact (BC) architectures

LONGi’s HIBC technology focusses on high-low temperature composite passivated back contact technology. It integrates the characteristics of HJT (Heterojunction Technology) and BC (Back Contact) and realizes large-scale mass production of modules for the first time ever. Zhong Baoshen, Chairman of LONGi, described the achievement as another milestone in LONGi’s technological innovation and a significant advancement along the company’s back contact technology pathway.

He added that conversion efficiency is not only the guiding light of photovoltaic technology, but also the lifeblood of photovoltaic products. LONGi has consistently advocated for increasing power output within a fixed area or standard module size, focusing on maximizing unit yield. “Simply improving efficiency through physical stacking and area expansion brings limited customer value. At the same time, the risks of reliability and quality are obvious after the area is expanded,” Zhong Baoshen said.

In April 2025, the Institute for Solar Energy Research Hamelin (ISFH) in Germany certified a conversion efficiency of 27.81% for LONGi’s HIBC cells, setting a new world record.

LONGi HIBC 700+ module to date most efficient industrial photovoltaic product in the world

The newly unveiled HIBC module delivers over 700W of output on a standard 2382 × 1134 mm format, achieving a power density of 259 W/m² and a module efficiency of 25.9%. “This is currently the most efficient industrial photovoltaic product in the world. Through the improvement of efficiency, which we call unit yield, the unity of high value and reliability is truly achieved,” Zhong Baoshen said.

Compared to other 700W modules in the industry, typically sized at 2384 × 1303 mm, LONGi’s HIBC module achieves 34 W/m² higher power density while using 0.4 m² less area. This challenges the conventional belief that “bigger means more power” and highlights the need to establish power density as a core technical benchmark for greater transparency in customer value.

In addition, HIBC products feature high-density cell interconnection technology, increasing the cell coverage ratio from 93.2% to 95.1%. This significantly enlarges the light-absorbing area, enhancing overall efficiency while maintaining long-term reliability.

With HIBC LONGi is leading into the 25%+ era

HIBC technology is designed to usher mass-produced photovoltaic modules into the 25%+ efficiency era. LONGi’s newly released 700W module combines high-quality HJT passivation with advanced back contact architecture. "We have taken less than three years to raise module efficiency to a new level. This clearly demonstrates the high scalability of back contact technology and its significant potential for further efficiency gains," said Zhong Baoshen.

At the press conference, Professor Martin Green of the University of New South Wales, widely known as the “Father of Solar Energy”, also praised LONGi’s innovation in back contact technology. “We recently updated the world solar cell efficiency list, and LONGi's HIBC technology topped, ranking first. This is also due to LONGi's unremitting efforts on the BC technology track,” he noted.

On May 7, LONGi officially launched the EcoLife series at the Intersolar exhibition, a mass-produced product series based on HIBC technology. The most powerful module features a mass-produced cell efficiency of 27.3% and a module efficiency exceeding 25%.

LONGi’s BC ecosystem hits key milestones since its 2023 launch

Zhong Baoshen shared the progress of LONGi’s BC ecosystem since its official launch in 2023. By end of May 2025, LONGi had engaged in technical collaboration with 191 global partners and established 55 formal partnerships across seven key sectors: silicon wafers, solar cells, modules, system solutions, hydrogen energy, biomass, and engineering technology. These efforts have generated an initial revenue of 1.95 billion yuan.

“Our original intention remains to begin with the end in mind and to cultivate the ‘black soil’ that nourishes the healthy, positive, and sustainable development of the photovoltaic industry,” said Zhong Baoshen.

The LONGi BC Ecosystem is a comprehensive and vertically integrated technological and manufacturing framework that LONGi has built around its back contact solar cell and module technology. It represents not just a product line, but a coordinated system of R&D, production, supply chain, and application platforms dedicated to advancing and scaling BC technology. The operational framework for building LONGi’s BC ecosystem was officially announced at the opening ceremony of the Global Distributed R&D Center on July 3, 2024. Going forward, LONGi will continue to expand and strengthen collaborations to unlock the full value of BC technology, enabling its widespread adoption across industries and households alike.
