LONGi has released its 2024–2025 Climate Action White Paper, presenting its most detailed climate roadmap to date and reaffirming its commitment to achieve full value-chain net-zero emissions by 2050. The White Paper highlights several major achievements: the validation of LONGi’s science-based targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a significant reduction in operational emissions in 2024 compared with the previous year, amounting to a 37 % decrease in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions versus 2023, world-record cell-efficiency breakthroughs including 27.81 percent conversion efficiency for monocrystalline silicon cells and 35 percent for silicon-perovskite tandem cells, and major progress in renewable-electricity usage, which reached 47.5 percent of LONGi’s total consumption in 2024. At the same time, the White Paper introduces a strengthened governance model aligned for the first time with the IFRS S2 climate-disclosure standard and the International Transition Plan Task Force (ITPTF) framework, marking an important step in harmonising LONGi’s disclosures with global climate-reporting expectations. Presented at COP30 in Belém, the White Paper details the company’s overarching ambition to decarbonise its full value chain and provides transparency on LONGi’s current emissions profile, reduction progress and forward-looking targets. LONGi emphasises that it is the first photovoltaic manufacturer in China with SBTi-validated targets. These include reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 60 percent by 2030 versus 2020, lowering Scope 3 emission intensity by 52 percent in the same timeframe, and ensuring full EV-charging coverage across all operational sites by the end of the decade. These commitments are embedded in a five-pillar climate framework that covers operational decarbonisation, value-chain collaboration, product carbon-footprint management, climate-solution deployment and a just-transition approach.

LONGi completed 477 electricity-saving renovation projects in 2024, expected to save 426 million kWh per year

The White Paper reports detailed emission data for 2024. LONGi’s total operational emissions (Scope 1 and 2) amounted to 3.18 million tonnes of CO₂e, representing a 37 percent decline from 2023 and a marked improvement driven by enhanced energy-efficiency measures and a growing share of renewable electricity. Although absolute emissions remain higher than in 2020 due to business expansion, the data shows a continuous reduction in emissions per unit of output and energy consumed. Electricity-saving renovation projects implemented in 2024 are expected to save 426 million kWh annually, equivalent to avoiding approximately 250,000 tonnes of CO₂. Across production processes, electricity-consumption intensity decreased substantially: down 4.27 percent in monocrystalline pulling, 13.6 percent in wafer slicing, 26 percent in cell production and 19.1 percent in module production, with all indicators surpassing annual targets.

LONGi also reports expanded use of renewable electricity across its operations. In 2024 the company consumed 4.746 billion kWh of renewable electricity, covering 47.5 percent of total usage and representing an increase of 5.7 percentage points compared with 2020. LONGi reiterates its interim milestones of reaching 70 percent renewable-electricity coverage in 2027 and achieving 100 percent by 2028, in line with its commitments under the RE100 initiative.

LONGi secured 53 product carbon-footprint certificates in 2024

The White Paper places particular emphasis on Scope 3 emissions, which account for almost 90 percent of LONGi’s total value-chain footprint. In 2024, Scope 3 emissions reached 27.34 million tonnes of CO₂e, with purchased goods and services, including silicon materials, aluminium frames and glass, making up roughly 84 percent. LONGi highlights its “Supply Chain Green Partner Empowerment Programme”, through which 50 key suppliers were supported in verifying carbon-footprint data. The company also expanded multimodal transport options, shifting a large share of shipments from road-only transport to combinations including water, sea and rail. By 2024, 79.3 percent of LONGi’s finished-product transportation used low-carbon logistics solutions.
Product carbon footprints and technology achievements form another core focus of the White Paper. LONGi obtained 53 carbon-footprint certificates for silicon wafers, modules and hydrogen-energy products in 2024. The company’s Hi-MO 9 module with HPBC 2.0 technology achieved a carbon footprint of under 350 kg CO₂e per kW, supported by certification systems in France, South Korea and EPD platforms. World-record cell-efficiency results underscore the role of technological advancement in facilitating long-term decarbonisation, including a 27.81 percent monocrystalline silicon cell conversion efficiency and a 35 percent silicon-perovskite tandem cell efficiency. The White Paper also reports a mass-production module efficiency of 24.8 percent for LONGi’s HPBC 2.0-based Hi-MO X10.

Pilot phase of internal shadow-carbon-price mechanism launched

Beyond emissions data, the publication outlines LONGi’s broader approach to climate governance and financial integration. In 2024 the company conducted its first double-materiality assessment, identifying climate-change response and energy management as financially material topics. Climate governance sits at the Board level via the Strategic and Sustainable Development Committee, and LONGi links part of management compensation to sustainability performance. The company is also piloting an internal shadow-carbon-price mechanism that feeds into budgeting processes and major energy-saving projects. The mechanism ensures that emission-reduction benefits are reflected in investment decisions, supports the prioritisation of high-impact efficiency measures and aligns financial planning with the climate-governance framework overseen by the Board’s Strategic and Sustainable Development Committee.

The White Paper further highlights LONGi’s “Solar for Solar” concept, which aims to advance decarbonisation by using clean energy to produce clean-energy products. LONGi also describes progress in climate-solution deployments such as building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), PV-agriculture hybrid projects and PV-hydrogen pathways. Demonstration cases from Uzbekistan, Egypt and Brazil illustrate the performance of LONGi modules under extreme environmental conditions.

Focus for 2026: Scaling renewable-electricity substitution and accelerating value-chain decarbonisation

With the publication of the 2024–2025 Climate Action White Paper, LONGi has provided its most transparent and comprehensive update on progress, challenges and pathways toward decarbonisation. The company states that its focus for the coming years will lie in accelerating renewable-electricity substitution, deepening value-chain collaboration on Scope 3 reduction, and scaling technologies that support lifecycle decarbonisation across global markets. Released during COP30, the White Paper reinforces LONGi’s commitment to align its development trajectory with evolving global climate-disclosure standards and to contribute meaningfully to worldwide climate-mitigation efforts.
