For solar modules, operational performance under real-world conditions determines long-term value. A recent independent analysis by global consultancy Enertis Applus+ has confirmed that LONGi’s Hi-MO 9 back contact (BC) modules deliver superior commercial results compared to TOPCon technology, providing higher energy output, lower electricity costs, and better system efficiency. We looked at the key outcomes.
+3.4% higher energy yield per watt than TOPCon
In a 47 MW single-axis tracker PV project in Seville, Spain, Enertis Applus+ recorded 2,209 full-load hours for Hi-MO 9 during the first year of operation - 2.4 to 3.4% higher than TOPCon alternatives. This directly increases revenue per installed watt.

Hi-MO 9 achieves 3.9 to 4.5% lower LCOE than TOPCon, even with marginal price premium
Even with a modest €0.007/W price difference, Enertis Applus+ found that Hi-MO 9 delivers a lower levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) of just €0.02706/kWh thanks to stronger energy yield, reduced system losses, and improved compatibility with trackers and inverters.

Back contact module showed fewer system losses and greater lifetime value than TOPCon
According to the study, LONGi’s BC module design offers technical advantages over TOPCon, such as reduced electrical losses, better rear-side uniformity, and higher compatibility with single-axis tracker layouts, enhancing total system efficiency.
The report concludes that BC modules provide a stronger return on investment over time. Their combination of efficiency gains and cost control gives them a distinct edge in commercial-scale deployments, supporting both profitability and long-term energy performance.
