Pirin Golf Hotel & Spa is a popular resort and golf club located at the foot of Bulgaria’s Pirin Mountain. In 2024, the resort transitioned to solar energy to address the significant energy consumption required for its operations, particularly for heating, lighting, and spa services. The goal was to reduce both energy costs and environmental impact.
The investor chose the best solar components to overcome regional challenges for maximum long-term gains
The resort’s high energy consumption, combined with the challenging mountainous terrain and fluctuating weather conditions, presented unique obstacles for solar panel installation. Additionally, the varying orientations of the hotel and restaurant further complicated the design of an efficient system.
To ensure long-term reliability and the best return on investment (ROI), LONGi Solar modules with Hybrid Passivated Back Contact (HPBC) technology were selected as the optimal solution. The varying orientations within the Pirin Golf complex posed a specific challenge, which the Back Contact technology addresses more effectively than mainstream TOPCon solutions.
LONGi’s HPBC modules, with their busbar-free design, capture 2.27% more radiation compared to TOPCon. Furthermore, due to the lack of bifaciality achievable in the complex’s conditions, the chosen modules offer superior reliability over standard TOPCon modules, which are more sensitive to humid and warm atmospheric conditions.
The investor’s decision was ultimately driven by both technology and business considerations. On the technological side, the priority was to ensure high-quality components for long-term, worry-free operation. The chosen LONGi solution, with a 25-year product warranty and a power generation level of 88.9% in the 25th year, guarantees consistent performance and long-term returns. On the business side, the manufacturer’s strong market position and financial stability provided added assurance, making the investment even more secure.

Solar power saves money and reduces 200 tons of CO2 emissions per year
The installation of a 620 kWp solar power system at the resort helped reduce approximately 200 tons of CO2 emissions annually, contributing to a decrease in the resort’s carbon footprint. This move made a significant impact on the investor's sustainable mission of operating in an environmentally friendly way.
In addition, such an investment provides cost savings on electricity bills. The shift to solar power reduced the resort’s energy expenses, providing long-term financial benefits while supporting eco-friendly tourism.
Pirin Golf Hotel & Spa shows how tourism can become sustainable with solar energy
Pirin Golf Hotel & Spa's adoption of solar power marks a significant leap for Bulgaria’s hospitality industry, demonstrating that solar energy is a practical and reliable solution for large, energy-intensive establishments. As more hotels and resorts explore solar systems to reduce operational costs and environmental impact, the project sets an example for solar module installations in the tourism sector within the region.
